The energy technology giant invests millions in a company that employs 1,000 people

International power generation manufacturer Cummins has invested more than £20 million in its Huddersfield base.

The company renovated its turbocharger plant and progression center, renovated its offices and installed charging systems for electric vehicles.

These site spaces have been evolved to reduce the facility’s carbon footprint and ensure it remains a cool paint space for the more than 1000 painters who work there.

The company employs 73,600 people worldwide and generated profits of $28. 1 billion/£22. 7 billion last year.

Dr John Clark, executive director of Research and Development at Cummins in Huddersfield, said: “We are very proud of what we produce at this site, the cutting-edge concepts we forge and the talented team we support.

“We are excited to see how our recent investment in the contributes to progress and helps us achieve our net-zero emissions ambitions. “

He said the Huddersfield facility is pleased to welcome West Yorkshire Mayor Tracy Brabin, Huddersfield MP Barry Sheerman and Huddersfield Labour MP Harpreet Uppal, who visited the site to find out more about how the company is moving towards the region’s net-zero emissions ambitions.

Brabin said, “Our region has a strong and proud productive history, leveraging those strengths to create professional, well-paying jobs as a component of a greener, more sustainable future.

“We are committed to working with partners like Cummins, both from the public and sectors, to build West Yorkshire Net Zero until 2038. “

Sheerman said: “People think of Huddersfield as a university town, or historically as a textile city, but the fact is we are a production and engineering city.

“It’s wonderful to see Cummins and build on this history and invest in our city and our youth. “

Uppal added: “It was to see the newly modernised Cummins site and meet some of the brilliant people who work there and put Huddersfield on the map as a thriving hub for innovation and manufacturing.
