TUCSON – The Travel ID goes into effect in exactly one year from Tuesday. This means residents will soon not be able to go through TSA with a regular driver’s license.
To help prevent residents from being grounded, News 4 Tucson created a walkthrough of the process.
Check the box for the type of license you need. After that, fill out a personal page with your Social Security Number, name, birthday, address other information you find on your Drivers License.
At the end, you will receive a barcode. It is important to print this out and bring it to Motor Vehicle Division.
“It’s considered to be appropriate and it is actually a better deal certainly than a passport which is well over $100,” Nick said. “In general, we are well below, certainly competitive in terms of the fee that we charge.”
Nick reminds residents to get the ID as soon as possible.
“It does not matter what date your license actually expires,” he said. “Uou can update it at any time.”
Allow for up to two weeks for your new ID to come in the mail.
