Destiny Part of Bungie’s Path to Become One of the ‘Best Entertainment Companies’ by 2025

Thanks to the success of both the Halo and Destiny franchises, Bungie is one of the most well-known and beloved development studios in the video game industry. But that just isn’t good enough for the studio. Bungie has a “pretty specific path” to become one of the “world’s best entertainment companies” by 2025.

In a recent interview by IGN, Bungie CEO Pete Parsons gave a brief overview of the studio’s plan for success, and half of that involves Destiny. “One, is we need to begin transforming Destiny. The Destiny that we really believe in, like, the thing we think Destiny needs to become,” says Parsons. “I think you’ve seen it in the vid doc, like, the single evolving world, we needed to focus on that.”

While this new endeavor begins with Destiny, the successful first-person shooter franchise can’t singlehandedly make Bungie one of the world’s best entertainment companies. Parsons says there is a “pretty specific path” to earn that title, and bringing new franchises to the table is part of that path.

“So, by 2025 we have a pretty specific path to make sure we transform Destiny and that we have other franchises within the marketplace,” says Parsons. He continues, “We need to build our publishing group, but part of our vision is also to become a multi0franchise entertainment company.”

This new vision for Bungie can be attributed to the company’s recent split with Activision. “You think this is going to be a really big stressor,” says Parsons about how the split with Activision has affected how it releases its products. “But it’s become a really bright shining spot on our ability to bring products to the marketplace and customers.”

Destiny‘s next expansion Shadowkeep will be available on October 1, 2019, for PS4, Xbox One, and PC. It will also be available on Google Stadia when it releases in November.
