Oct. 12: Clutch Brewing Company is turning one, and to celebrate, the brewery in Keg and Case West 7th Market is throwing a Halloween bash. The free party, which runs from 2 to 11 p.m. in the Keg and Case greens space, includes a kids’ pumpkin decorating contest, a pumpkin carving contest for adults, movies after dark and Clutch beer out on the patio. Oct. 12: Lakes and Legends 3rd Annual Harvest Fest street festival will celebrate the harvest season with seven different craft beers brewed with Minnesota Grown ingredients, food, shopping and live music. The event hosted by the Loring Park brewery and taproom will also feature a shopping component with local produce from Pearson Organics as well as handmade arts and crafts from a dozen local makers. Food trucks Gastrotruck and Butcher Salt will be onsite. There will also be live music from Kind Country and Poppa Bear Norton. Oct. 19: More than 100 Minnesota breweries will participate in the Autumn Brew Review from 5 to 9 p.m. at Boom Island Park in Minneapolis. The festival, in its 19th year, features seasonal releases and flagship brews, food trucks, music, activities and games and bonfires tended by the Minneapolis Fire Department. Now through Oct. 20: Twin Cities Vegan Chef Challenge is luring in chefs from all over the Twin Cities in this friendly competition calling for creative plant-based items that diners order off the menu and vote on. Twin Cities restaurants include Al’s Place, Barbette Restaurant, Barley John’s, Black Dog Cafe, BRIM, Fig + Farro, Hard Times Cafe, Parkway Pizza (all three locations), Pat’s Tap, Pub 819, Red Stag Supperclub, The Howe Daily Kitchen and Bar, Tiny Diner, Tongue in Cheek and Twin Cities 400 Tavern. The competition is currently underway and diners can vote online for their favorite vegan dishes in multiple categories at exploreveg.org/tcvccvote. Oct. 26: Monster Bash, a Halloween party from Lake Monster Brewing and 89.3 The Current, is taking place from 1 p.m. to 12 a.m. at the brewery, 550 Vandalia St., St. Paul. There will be live music all day, a DJ when the sun goes down, three food trucks and a costume contest. The brewery will have all its usual beers, but also eight cask infusions that will be tapped, including a bourbon imperial oatmeal stout. Tickets are $9 in advance, $15 at the door. Oct. 27: For the 11th Annual Cookie Cart Chefs’ Dinner, local chefs Rose McGee, Christina Nguyen, Justin Sutherland and Yia Vang will join forces to prepare dinner for this fundraiser at Saint Paul College. The dinner, founded by Sue Zelickson and Pat Weber, has chefs create a recipe for a particular category of the meal, then prepare the dish with the help of culinary students. This year, students from the Saint Paul College Culinary Arts program will assist. The theme this time around, Neighborhood Flavors, will feature dishes that highlight Twin Cities neighborhoods. The dinner will include wine pairings, a reception with silent auction and networking with Cookie Cart youth employees and, following the dinner, a live auction.
