Knights off to hot start to season: Redding sports blog (October 2019)

Oct. 1

Shasta College football one year ago had its season dampened by the Camp Fire. Now the Knights have undergone one of the best turnarounds in the state having won all four of its games to start the season.

The 16th ranked Knights’ rise has been led by a defense that hasn’t allowed a touchdown at home. Sophomores defensive lineman Detrius Kelsall, Cole Parker and defensive end Torren Calhoun-Ray collectively had five sacks. Kelsall returned an interception for 12 yards in a 22-6 win last Saturday against Sacramento City College.

Sophomore Matt McCree and freshman James Lee each ran for a touchdown for the Knights who host College of the Sequoias this Saturday at 1 p.m.

Shasta College volleyball ended non-conference play on a high note by winning two of its final three games. The Knights swept Sacramento City College and were led by sophomore Danae Ford and freshmen libero Aliyah Rosado Cruz and outside hitter Jennifer Troxclair. Ford had 17 assists and six digs, Rosado Cruz had 13 assists and eight digs and Troxclair had 11 kills. Shasta starts Golden Valley League play this Friday at home against College of Siskiyous.
