(CNN) – Do you think your driver's license is good enough to get you through U.S. airport security?
It might not come 2020.
On Oct. 1, 2020, travelers will need a “REAL ID-compliant driver's license, U.S. passport, U.S. military ID or other accepted identification to fly within the country, according to CNN.
The REAL ID Act established minimum security standards for the issuing of state licenses.
To get a REAL ID-compliant state driver's license, Homeland Security requires applicants to provide documents showing their full legal name, their date of birth, their Social Security Number, two proofs of address of principal residence and lawful status.
Some states may require more steps to get the license, too.
If you don't have a REAL ID-compliant driver's license, TSA won't clear you for your flight by next year, according to CNN.
According to a recent survey from U.S. Travel, about 57 percent of Americans had no idea this deadline is coming.
Homeland Security reported Tuesday 47 out of 50 states are currently REAL ID compliant. However, only about 27 percent of Americans have been issued a REAL ID.
So, how can you tell if your license is already REAL-ID compliant?
If there's a star in the upper-righthand corner, you're good to go.
Head over to the Homeland Security website for more information.
