
Berry College’s Connor Davis scored 39 seconds into overtime for a 2-1 win over visiting Covenant in NCAA Division III men’s soccer Tuesday. It was the first loss of the season for the Scots (8-1-1), who got a tying goal from Josh Brower at 77:38. Jesse Riggs had the assist. Covenant led 17-10 in shots, 11-4 in the second half. Berry is 6-4-1.
* The Covenant women downed Oglethorpe 3-0 with three second-half goals Monday night — and outshot the 7-2 visitors 16-4 with a 9-3 gap in shots on goal. Kailey Burrell had the first goal and an assist, and Anna Robertson and Kyra Duble also scored for the Lady Scots (3-4-1). Sarah Agee, Elsa Woody and Addy Cronan also had assists, and Lucy Sandhoff posted a three-save shutout.
Volleyball
* Bryan College defeated visiting Tennessee Wesleyan 3-0 in AAC volleyball Tuesday night, by the set scores of 25-20, 25-20, 25-17. Gigi Ford and Emalie Hicks had nine kills each and Anna Owens added eight for Bryan, which got 18 assists from Sidney Pierce, 10 from Jaleigh Rogan and 15 digs from Rheagan Kean. Marjorie Smith had 12 kills and Kalyse Garrett had 26 assists for TWU, while Avery Hilliard had four block solos and three block assists with seven kills and Madison Elkins had 11 digs.
* Covenant won 3-0 (25-7, 25-21, 25-9) in USA South volleyball Tuesday at winless Agnes Scott. Leah Buys had 21 assists, Emily Moore 17 digs and eight aces, Sara Delk 10 digs and Meriel Chupp and Lindsey Stephens six kills apiece for Covenant (3-11, 2-1).
* Chattanooga State won 3-0 (25-13, 25-13, 25-10) at The Crown and is 7-5. Brieana Hemphill had 10 kills, nine blocks and three aces and Dakota Rawiszer had 16 assists and six blocks for the Lady Tigers, who host TCCAA leader Walters State at 6 p.m. Friday. Emily Redden added 14 assists, Ricki Lynn Bickley nine kills and Kayla Ford 10 digs and three aces.
Running
* Freshman Kathryn Vradenburgh finished first by more than a minute and Dalton State teammates Kay Vradenburgh, Alex Gass, Rachel Ward and Ana Karen Padilla were fourth, fifth, sixth and eighth as the Lady Roadrunners won going away in a five-team cross country race last weekend at NCAA Division II member West Georgia. With 19 points, DSC beat the second-place hosts by 39. Tuesday, the younger Vradenburgh was named the Southern States Athletic Conference women’s runner of the week for the third time this season.
* Sewanee’s Jack Barganier and Molly Joseph were the Southern Athletic Association cross country runners of the week for leading their teams to dual-meet victories in the Sewanee Invitational. Barganier won the men’s 8k against Oglethorpe by 36.7 seconds in 27:46, and Joseph was second in the 6k in 25:10.3 against Division II member Ouachita Baptist.
Golf
* Dalton State’s Isabel Rijos was the SSAC women’s golfer of the week after sharing medalist honors with a 1-under-par 143 in the Carey Collegiate Classic at Hattiesburg, Mississippi. That was the third weekly honor in her DSC career, which includes the most tournament wins (six) in program history.
