Ireland 35-0 Russia: Joe Schmidt’s side bounce back from Rugby World Cup shock defeat to Japan

Job done. Ireland got their World Cup campaign back on a track with a bonus-point win over Russia in Kobe, but this was another worrying performance.

Joe Schmidt’s men need maximum points from their final two group games to ensure their passage in the quarter finals.

They achieved phase one here with a workmanlike win over the pool minnows and must do the same against Samoa next Saturday, but the feeling remains that Ireland will cause the big hitters very little concern once the real business begins in the knockout stages.
