Louisiana Tech has filled out its non-conference dates for the 2020 and added another home game versus an FCS opponent to the 2022 docket.
The school announced Wednesday afternoon the addition of the SWAC’s Prairie View A&M for its home opener Sept. 19, 2020, the fourth and final out-of-conference contest for the Bulldogs that season. FCS Southland Conference team Stephen F. Austin comes to Joe Aillet Stadium Sept. 10, 2022 for the Bulldogs home opener that year, becoming the third announced non-conference game, leaving one OOC date remaining for the 2022 campaign.
To kickoff next season, Tech will travel to UNLV and Baylor in back-to-back weeks before hosting PVAMU for the first meeting between the two programs. Rounding out the non-conference schedule, the Bulldogs will face its second Power 5 opponent on the road at Vanderbilt on Nov. 21, 2020.
In 2022, Louisiana Tech will open the year with its second trip to Waco, Texas in three seasons against Baylor before coming home to match up with the Lumberjacks. The following week, the Clemson Tigers, a likely top-5 squad, await Tech Sept. 17, 2022. With two trips to Power 5 teams that year, it’s likely Tech Athletic Director Tommy McClelland will want to add another home game to finalize the 2022 OOC slate.
The News-Star has learned that Louisiana Tech will pay $350,000 each to both Prairie View and Stephen F. Austin for the games.
Tech also officially announced its FCS date hosting in-state Southeastern Louisiana on Sept. 11, 2021, filling the last open OOC game for that season. The News-Star reported on the game back in March and the $275,000 payout for the Lions’ visit. That year, the Bulldogs start on the road at Mississippi State before meeting Southeastern at home. Tech will face SMU at The Joe the following week and rounds out its non-conference dates Oct. 2, 2021 at North Carolina State.
