Typhoon approaches eastern Japan; may make landfall Sunday

Typhoon Faxai moved northwest over the Pacific toward eastern Japan on Saturday, threatening to make landfall near Tokyo as early as Sunday night, the weather agency said.

The season’s 15th typhoon, packing winds of up to 180 kilometers per hour, is expected to reach coastal areas of the Kanto region between late Sunday and early Monday, according to the Japan Meteorological Agency.

As of 6 p.m., Faxai was traveling about 190 kilometers north-northeast of Chichijima Island in the Pacific at a speed of 30 kph, the agency said.

In the 24 hours through midday Sunday, the typhoon is forecast to bring between 200 and 400 millimeters of rainfall to coastal regions of central and eastern Japan.

Yes it will.

I intend to work from home Monday to avoid the unnecessary ceremony of sitting at my desk soaking wet to show my blind loyalty to the company.

The Monday morning commute could be very, very interesting.

Looks like it is going to hit Tokyo head on. Nice if you don´t have to commute…

Wishing everyone stays safe.

Sounds like a bit of rain and a bit of wind. They either build them up too much or too little, and get the blame for their predictions either way. I would not like to be a meteorologist.

Its gone north for a change. The cooling rain will be welcome. The weather is always so good after a typhoon. Stay at home and drink sake with your wife.

The weather is always so good after a typhoon.

It’s gonna leave behind a couple of brutally hot days I fear.

@zichi

I would if I could. She’s with the daughter, in Tokyo…

Yeah, cause I’ve only got Sundays off. haha. (More) Seriously, though, peeps, take care and stay safe. No rooftop ventures!

If flooding arises, then subways probably will be delayed or won’t run, and other forms of transport will be severely impacted… let’s just hope that we don’t have a major earthquake at the time the Typhoon hits.

Very selfish! You should join hands with your coworkers to encircle your place of employment, protecting it from danger and building the wa.

Japan’s climate during this time of year is the pits. Tokyo’s forecast for tomorrow is high of 37, low of 27, preceded by pounding typhoon rains. Ugh.
