SOUTHAMPTON, NY —A young woman who grew up on the Shinnecock Reservation has her sights set on the starts as she fundraises to participate in the 2020 Miss New York USA pageant.
A GoFundMe page, “Gianni T. Willis Miss New York USA 2020” was created by Willis.
“As you may know I am a hardworking student and worker that shoots for every star in the sky,” she said. “It is always great to go for things, especially the dreams that may seem to be impossible. With that being said I am always jumping at all the opportunities I see.”
Willis is a Miss New York USA selected finalist contestant “ready to make her mark and represent,” she said, adding that she has many goals. “Not only is this opportunity great for me but it is also great for my community. I plan on using every single cultured inch of me to motivate influence and make change, and give a spot on the map for what has never been done. I believe great things will come from this experience.”
Gearing up for the big event, Willis said she needs all the support she can get to help fund her dream, and has reached out to her Shinnecock community, family, friends, residents, businesses, clubs and schools.
Willis has a goal of $2,000, to help fund pageant week. “I want to take this opportunity and achieve many things. . . It is wildly appreciated if you’d become apart of my team in competition to be the next Miss New York USA!” she said.
