BIGGS, Calif. – Major upgrades are coming to the Biggs Unified School District. The district has received $9 million for modernization projects for the elementary, middle and high schools. After FEMA granted them financial hardship status.
The three schools have 620 students and assemblyman James Gallagher said they took on more students from Paradise after the Camp Fire.
The district will use the funding for updating infrastructure and improving accessibility. While looking at ways to be more energy-efficient.
Superintendent of Biggs Unified School District, Doug Kaelin said this is something that will last them for the next 50 years.
“Modernizing our schools, new windows, paint, just infrastructure being redone, swear lines, water lines,” Kaelin said. “What it means for the community in the school you can’t put into words.”
The district will receive the money in January. Construction will start up in late spring, once students are not on campus.
