Japan’s Gen Hoshino Drops New Song ‘Same Thing’ Featuring Superorganism

Japanese singer-songwriter Gen Hoshino dropped the title song from his upcoming EP, Same Thing, exclusively on Apple Music.

The track, featuring London-based group Superorganism, is Hoshino’s first collaborative effort with any act. The eight-member multinational band became friends Hoshino after they went to see the hitmaker perform live. Hoshino wrote the lyrics — all in English, another first for the artist — and music for “Same Thing,” and Superorganism handled the arrangement.

The four-track digital EP will be released Oct. 14 and includes more collaborative tracks by Hoshino and other artists including Japanese rapper PUNPEE.

Zane Lowe’s Beats 1 radio show, heard in over 100 countries worldwide, premiered “Same Thing” on the show early Friday (Oct. 4) Japan time.

The Same Thing EP was “a game, a challenge, and my shout as a musician,” shares the 38-year-old artist. “These are four great songs that I made while constantly feeling an almost scary excitement, and inspired by how something so interesting could still be happening in my music career. Don’t miss it.”
