“We would like to express our sincere appreciation to Stellantis, Samsung SDI and their StarPlus Energy joint venture for their continued commitment and investment in our community,” said Mayor Tyler Moore of Kokomo. “The addition of this second battery plant will solidify Kokomo as one of the largest manufacturers of electric vehicle batteries in North America and demonstrates that Kokomo continues to be at the forefront of complex automotive manufacturing.
As part of the Dare Forward 2030 strategic plan, Stellantis announced plans to achieve 100% sales of battery electric vehicles (BEVs) for passenger cars in Europe and 50% sales of passenger vehicles and BEVs in the US. To achieve those sales targets, the Company is securing approximately 400 GWh of battery capacity. Stellantis is on track to achieve a zero-car emissions company by 2038 across the board, with a single-digit offset percentage of the remaining emissions.
