The sale of Virginia Tech’s 7. 41-acre site (7054 Haycock Road) was finalized last week. “This closure marks a vital milestone in a decade-long planning effort submitted through the City of Falls Church,” said Mayor David Tarter. “We are thrilled to have the national headquarters of HITT Contracting and the Virginia Tech Coalition for Smart Construction as neighbors for our West Falls project. In 2014, the city limits were adjusted with Fairfax County, bringing the George Mason High School campus into the city limits. The school board supported the concept of dedicating 10 acres of its assets to advertising progress to help fund the new Meridian High School.
As a first step in making plans for the school site, the city invited Fairfax County, UVA, VA Tech and WMATA to sign up to make plans for a more vibrant, environmentally sustainable, walkable and transit-oriented long-term at their sites. .
They responded with plans that complement the city’s allocation to West Falls and will be of regional significance.
