Telstra upgrades Malmsbury network

Telstra will upgrade its cellular base station in Malmsbury by adding more infrastructure to bring better 4G and a new 5G policy to the community, but the work will require a number of transitory disruptions or relief in cellular policy.

These innovations will take temporary effect on Telstra’s cellular policy from Monday, November 27 through Thursday, December 7. From 7 a. m. on Monday until 5 p. m. Next Thursday there will be no cellular network policy on this site.

From Friday 1 December to Thursday 7 December, there will be daily network outages while Telstra completes network testing and integration. The network will be reset at the end of the day.

The cellular network will be affected on the weekend of December 2 and 3.

Telstra mobile consumers will receive text messages informing them of upcoming jobs.

LandlineArray NBN Internet and the cellular policy of other providers will not be affected. All calls to Triple Zero from a Telstra cell phone when the site is off the air will be automatically redirected to any working cellular network to connect to EmergencyArray.

Telstra regional general manager Steve Tinker said although crews had to paint the day for protection reasons, they only turned the site off when they needed to and turned it back on as temporarily as possible.

“There’s never a good time to adopt this type of work, but once completed, it will result in increased cellular coverage for local residents,” Tinker said.

“As a company, we are investing heavily in regional connectivity and this site is another example of our commitment.

“Over the past seven years through the end of FY23, Telstra has invested $11 billion in our national cellular network, $4 billion invested in our regional cellular network.

Customers who don’t have 5G on the Telstra network will want a 5G-enabled device, so for others this would possibly mean upgrading their existing device.
