At the end of 2022, Helium Mobile was announced as the first “crypto carrier. “This dubious term was intended to describe the decentralized side of Helium. Basically, the company builds its network not on cell towers like traditional wireless carriers, but on community-owned foundations. problems transmitting cellular signals to Helium subscribers.

It’s been a little over a year with Helium operating in small pockets of the US, but now it’s ready to step out into the big leagues. Today, Helium is offering subscriptions to anyone in the US for just $20 each month. This is a substantial increase over the $5-each-month price early adopters got, but is still quite inexpensive.

The company is also moving away from the “crypto carrier” moniker, which exists because it doesn’t make much sense. Instead, the company is embracing “decentralized wireless communication,” which is much better.

To be clear, you don’t need to be a “node” on the Helium Mobile network to use it. You can subscribe as you would any cheap MVNO (like Cricket or Mint). However, if you need the network, you can purchase an indoor hotspot for $249 and/or an outdoor hotspot for $499.

As a subscriber, you don’t want to rely on the decentralized network. You’ll turn to the T-Mobile network if you’re far away from a node. In theory, this will give you a national policy as smart or bigger than a T. -Mobile subscriber.

Well, to sweeten the matter even more. Helium offers a rewards program. If you help the company map its coverage, you can earn MOBILE rewards. These come at a financial cost that you can apply to your monthly bill.
